I am always on the lookout for toys or games to help spur my son’s intellectual abilities. He has microcephaly, meaning his head is smaller and, therefore, his brain is smaller making it hard for him to learn new concepts.
Although he is in every intervention therapy you can imagine, home is where the most learning happens for him.
My husband actually came across this game at Cincity Convention and was hopeful it would help with many things we have been working on with our son.
The game's objective is to match up the eggs that the Penguins are sitting on. You roll the dice and then find the corresponding colored egg. We adapted our first game for our son, using only one die.
Once my son got the hang of the game he was so excited! He was even helping us find the eggs when he remembered where the corresponding colored egg was!
The pieces are wooden and are large enough he can grasp them, even with low muscle tone. But the eggs are small enough to fit in a little ones mouth, so play with the family or supervise the game.
Overall, I love this game, it has helped our son learn colors, matching, numbers (counting his eggs), and how to play a game with others.
You can find this game at target and other retail stores for around $25.
